Who You Are Matters

Hi you, it’s me. I’ve been thinking a lot lately about your impact on our family, and I wanted to share some thoughts with you.

Your Presence Shapes Our Kids

As our kids grow, they see you in big moments and small, everyday ones that truly shape who they are. Whether you’re teaching them how to roller skate, cheering them on at award ceremonies, or just talking about life, your presence is a constant source of strength and comfort.

Our Family’s Identity Begins with You

Today, I want to remind you of something incredibly important—our family’s identity begins with you. It’s not your job to rescue us; Jesus has already done that. But you have a significant influence, setting the tone for our household. We may not always be aware of it, but our family has a unique and powerful identity that shapes who we are. This goes far beyond our shared DNA.

It’s our shared laughter, our ability to comfort one another, and the irreplaceable sense of belonging that only God could have created through our being together.

I know there are times when we don’t see eye to eye and moments when stubbornness or insecurities get the best of us all. But those moments are just part of the story being written. The ways you use these moments to teach resilience, stand up for what you believe in, and value forgiveness are invaluable to us, especially our kids.

Your Dedication and Presence

Your work ethic and dedication are always visible, yet you prioritize being available to play and be present. The kids see how hard you work to provide for our family, often sacrificing your wants and needs to ensure we have everything. That kind of dedication isn’t just about the physical things; it’s about the love and care you pour into our lives and the home we’re making together. Thank you for showing us what it means to be committed and work hard for the people you love.

Who You Are Matters: You’re Filling Our Home with Safety, Connection, and Support

In our fast-paced world, everyone needs a family’s safety, connection, and support. Your role as the leader of our house is vital in creating this environment alongside me. The older we get, the more I learn who our family is—it’s so much more than what people see on the outside. It’s the foundation our kids will someday build upon with their own families. It really is the glue that holds us together, even in the toughest times.

Teaching Integrity

One of the most important lessons you teach is the importance of integrity, and you demonstrate this value in the way you live and love us. You often say, “Always do what you believe is right, even when it’s not easy or popular.” Your unwavering commitment to your principles is a guiding light for our family. I already see the kids living out this principle in their own unique ways.

Who You Are Matters: You’re Raising the Future of Society

Every day, whether you realize it or not, you are shaping the next generation. Your actions, words, and values create a legacy that influences our kids and the generations after them. This is why you’ve made understanding and protecting our family’s culture so important. The shared values and beliefs that guide you help our family navigate life’s ups and downs. Consequently, they’ve instilled character and created a sense of unity and strength.

Creating Lasting Memories

Simple weekly dinners and holiday traditions—these moments create fun, lasting memories and a sense of belonging. They give our family something to look forward to and uphold. The stories of your small beginnings, the fight to overcome, lessons through failures, and everyday challenges inspire us to live with purpose. Your life story provides wisdom, connection, and fulfillment within our home. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Living with Humility and Grace

Who you are matters more than words can fully express. Your values, love, and strength shape our family in ways you may not even realize. You are a role model, a mentor, and a friend. Your influence is woven into the very fabric of our family.

You’ve lived out with grace and humility what it means to lead your family with purpose and intention, fulfilling the very calling God has placed on your life. Thank you for embracing who you are so we can intentionally live a fulfilling life together. Thank you for defining and celebrating who we are—the shared identity that wonderfully and purposefully tells the world who our family is. While who we are as a family is powerful, it’s also essential to celebrate the unique individuals within our family, and you do this daily. You bring your own color to our family canvas, making who we are every day richer and more fun. Thank you for embracing each of us as individuals, strengthening our sense of unity, and creating a safe environment where we can learn and grow together.

Who You Are Matters: You’re Demonstrating the Love of Christ

Our family’s personality doesn’t just stay within our home; it influences how we interact with the world. This is evident in how you continue to lead our family. Our journey together has shaped each of our kids in the most beautiful ways. Who we are as a family has become a lens through which they see the world and impacts everything from their individual perspectives to how they’ll someday contribute to the world.

Through your leadership and love, you remind me that intentional leadership within a family isn’t just about the present—it’s about the future. The values, behaviors, and dynamics we as parents model at home become the legacy that will influence future generations. You have the power to create a lasting, positive legacy, and I am grateful to see you commit to building it.

You Are a Gift

Our family was not brought together by accident. God has equipped and called you to be the leader of our home, and it’s clear to me why. You’ve shaped our family into a powerful source of strength, joy, and belonging. This is built on values, inside jokes, getting back up when we fall, and many Christmas traditions. Therefore, these treasures make our family uniquely ours, guiding us through life’s changes and challenges.

Thank you for being you, for all the sacrifices, lessons, and love. Thank you for showing our kids what it means to be a person of character and heart. We are proud to be your family, and we are grateful every day for the husband and father you are.

I love you more than all of it,

Your Biggest Fan & Forever Teammate
