Family Vision: Direction Over Perfection

When it comes to Family Vision, you must remember, Direction over Perfection.

Leading with vision is the cornerstone of family unity, peace, and effectiveness, and creating a Family Vision is the first step to moving in the direction of unity, peace, and effectiveness. This month, we’re excited to share suggestions for creating a family vision. Discussing vision with your loved ones builds stronger relationships as you listen to their dreams, and they listen to yours. This mutual understanding deepens the value of your relationships, making everyone feel more connected and supported.

Why does Family Vision Matter? Because a Family Without Vision is Unrestrained.

Proverbs 29:18 tells us that where there is no vision, people are unrestrained. But why? Vision provides direction and restraint. Without it, each family member might pursue their own, often conflicting, goals. A unified family vision aligns everyone’s aspirations, reducing conflicts and fostering peace. We’re not talking about losing individuality. Every individual is unique and their identity holds great purpose, there’s no denying that! What we do want to bring awareness to is the truth that families are where those individual personalities and minds take shape, and if we as parents aren’t intentional about helping them do so in positive and healthy ways, they become “unrestrained.”

The Heart of Family Vision: Include Everyone

Creating a family vision is a collaborative effort. When everyone contributes their thoughts and aspirations, it fosters a sense of ownership and responsibility. This collective input strengthens family bonds and ensures the vision reflects everyone’s hopes and dreams. When each person feels heard and valued, the foundation for unity and cooperation is solidified.

6 Key Areas of Family Vision

We focused on developing a vision for the kids in six crucial areas:

  1. Spiritual: Bible reading, Scripture memory, prayer, heart condition.
  2. Physical: Exercise routine, sports activities, health.
  3. Character: Specific qualities to develop.
  4. Relational/Loving Others: Selflessness, handling conflicts, discernment in friendships, ministry involvement.
  5. Educational/Academic: Study plans, curriculum, teaching roles.
  6. Life Skills: Listening, typing, finances, service skills, leadership.

By discussing each area, we noted the kids’ growth and pinpointed areas for improvement. We ensured our ideas aligned with biblical principles and developed goals for the next six months.

Engaging the Kids in Your Family Vision: It’s a Collaborative Effort

Before finalizing our family vision, we discussed it with each child. We acknowledged their growth and sought their input on the six areas. We brainstormed character projects, life skills, relationship improvements, Scripture passages, and activities. This process ensured everyone was on board with our unified direction.

Remember, the Whole Family is Needed to Create a Family Vision!

A clear vision helps streamline decision-making. When faced with new opportunities or activities, we taught the kids to measure them against our agreed-upon vision. If something fits, we considered it; if not, we passed. Each week, my wife and I reviewed our vision and schedule, making adjustments as needed based on health, stress levels, and other factors. Our main goal was to stay aligned with our six-month vision.

The Long-Term Impact of Family Vision: Direction Over Perfection

Small, consistent steps every six months can lead to significant growth over ten to fifteen years. Vision helps your kids learn to live purposefully. While the specifics of your vision might change, the overarching goal remains the same: guiding your family with love and intention.

Let God’s Vision Become Your Family Vision | Your Security and Guide

Teaching kids about vision rooted in God’s principles provides security. Vision predetermines action, much like an artist plans a painting before touching the canvas. God’s vision for us is a source of security, and aligning our family vision with His ensures harmony, peace, and order.

Leading with Vision

Will you lead with vision and create a Family Vision with the ones you love most? Whether you’re a step-parent, a stay-at-home mom, or any other family member with a passion for leading your family more intentionally, leading with vision can transform your home. Seek God’s guidance for your family’s vision, start small, and watch as unity and peace flourish.

Remember, Direction over Perfection. The direction you set today shapes the future of your family. By seeking the Lord’s vision, you can navigate life with clarity and face challenges with hope and purpose. As you experience the benefits of a unified vision, you’ll be inspired to expand your horizons and trust the Lord for more. We’re praying for you!
